Foundations of Comparative Genomics
Pages: 280

This book provides an overview of computational analysis of genes and genomes,
and of some most notable findings that come out of this work. Foundations of
Comparative Genomics presents a historical perspective, beginning with early
analysis of individual gene sequences, to present day comparison of gene
repertoires encoded by completely sequenced genomes. The author discusses the
underlying scientific principles of comparative genomics, argues that
completion of many genome sequences started a new era in biology, and provides
a personal view on several state-of-the-art issues, such as systems biology and
whole-genome phylogenetic reconstructions. This book is an essential reference
for researchers and students in computational biology, evolutionary biology,
and genetics.

Molecular Neurology

Why a book on molecular neurology? Molecular neuroscience is advancing at a
spectacular rate. As it does so, it is revealing important clues to the
pathogenesis and pathophysiology of neurological diseases, and to the
therapeutic targets that they present. Medicines work by targeting molecules.
The more specific the targeting, the more specific the actions, and the fewer
the side effects. This book highlights, for graduate and MD-PhD students,
research fellows and research-oriented clinical fellows, and researchers in the
neurosciences and other biomedical sciences, the principles underlying
molecular medicine as related to neurology. Written by internationally
recognized experts, this well-illustrated and well-referenced book presents the
most up-to-date principles and disease examples relevant to molecular
neurology, and reviews the concepts, strategies, and latest progress in this
field. This book will interest anyone studying the molecular basis of
neurology, or developing new therapies in neurology.

use in arrays containing large numbers of these molecules. There are also
methods for the production of proteins and carbohydrates using different
expression systems, for analyzing proteins using mass spectrometry, and for
arraying proteins and carbohydrates on solid supports. The protocols follow the
successful Methods in Molecular Biology™ series format, each offering
step-by-step laboratory instructions, an introduction outlining the principles
behind the technique, lists of the necessary equipment and reagents, and tips
on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.

The p53 Tumor Suppressor Pathway and Cancer (Protein Reviews Volume 2)
The p53 tumor suppressor gene is mutated in approximately half of all human
malignancies, including colon, lung, and breast cancers. It is well recognized
that these mutations directly inactivate p53 tumor suppressor function.
Furthermore, the p53 protein operates within a pathway and this pathway,
including the mutations in p53, is likely inactivated by nearly every human
tumor. In support of this hypothesis, 100% of mice that have been engineered
such that they do not express p53 protein (knockout animals), develop highly
malignant tumors by only 3-6 months of age. The importance of p53 in preventing
human cancer is also evident by families in which a mutated p53 gene is
inherited from a parent.

International Pharmaceutical Registration
(2000)
The increasing globalization of pharmaceutical markets and continuing consolidation within the pharmaceutical industry have highlighted the challenges of rapidly evolving regulatory requirements and created a much greater appreciation of the need for regulatory awareness throughout the industry. This book provides a practical overview and guide to the complexities of international pharmaceutical registration. With individual country chapters written by experts within that country drawn from regulatory authorities, international pharmaceutical companies, and regulatory consultants, the book comprehensively covers regulations across the globe.
International Pharmaceutical Registration has been prepared in response to numerous requests to provide a practical overview and guide to the complexities of pharmaceutical registration internationally. With the increasing globalisation of pharmaceutical markets and continuing consolidation within the pharmaceutical industry, the challenges of rapidly evolving regulatory requirements, including the opportunities presented by increased harmonisation of regulatory guidelines in ternationally have forged a much greater appreciation of the need for regulatory awareness.Individual country chapters are written by national experts from regulatory authorities, international pharmaceutical companies and regulatory consultants. This was an intentional approach to emphasise the partnership involved in regulatory affairs between the regulators and the industry in the spirit of cooperation as reflected in such endeavours as the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH). Whereas the ICH has focused on the major centres of pharmaceutical research and development, namely the European Union (EU), Japan and the United States, which led to many harmonised guidelines covering these areas (and recognised also in many other countries), the wider international pharmaceutical regulatory world remains much more diverse.

Protein Formulation and Delivery (Drugs and the Pharmaceutical Sciences: a Series of Textbooks and Monographs 99)by Mcnally (1999)
This handy reference provides insight into the approach used to identify the stability profile of a molecule that comes at the end of the drug registration process, and supplies an in-depth review of the mechanisms and associated causes of protein instability likely to be encountered during drug formulation development. Emphasizes the importance of selecting formulation conditions, excipients, and container closure systems to minimize degradation processes and maximize shelf stability!
